They’re still going strong! In a club, in a theatre or – in this case, in JAZZMADRID – in a festival. Red House’s music is powerful and stripped bare. Their vernacular is the blues, but they are no strangers to the searing sounds of rock and roll or the exhilarating explosion of funk.
The core of Red House is the once telegenic guitarist Francisco Simón, and vocalist Jeff Espinoza. The former studied at the prestigious “Guitar Institute of Technology” in Hollywood, while the latter studied in his home town of Los Angeles, California, one of the most prolific wellsprings of the blues in recent decades.
Always powerful, unexpectedly raspy when the song reaches its climax, Jeff Espinoza’s singing has not always adhered to the strict confines of the genuine aesthetics of the blues. In fact, artists like Chris Rea or Barry Graham have on occasions drawn on some of his creations to enhance their respective repertoires.
In their concerts, Red House play material from the seven albums they have released. All of them are full of solid values, although perhaps the most important one is how they show that the aesthetic cartography of the blues can change by leaps and bounds. Fortunately, these two artists, who met in Spain when they were both in The Flying Gallardos, are still together and active. Thanks to both of them, the local blues scene is flourishing.
