The challenge posed to a strategy that creates areas of contention between very different types of music has a particularly important champion in Suso Sáiz. He grew up artistically in the jazz clubs of Madrid, until he founded the iconic Orquesta de las Nubes in 1980. The career of this composer, guitarist, arranger and record producer has produced a wealth of works and collaborations for musicians and groups such as Esclarecidos, Luis Eduardo Aute, Cristina Rosenvinge, Grupo Círculo, Luz Casal, Steve Roach, Fon Román and Jorge Pardo, among others.

Far from diluting his personal discourse, these highly diverse adventures reveal the artist’s unprejudiced gaze. In fact, if we add to the above activity the production of symphonic works, string quartets and film soundtracks, it may be easier to understand that Suso has, as in fact is the case, a visa to go on any musical journey he can think of, and to stop off in rock, in ambient music and in many other styles, which – except in the case of the score conceived for the theatre “Monsieur Goya, Una Indagación” -, due to the absence of media exposure, were not recorded when, only recently, the musician was curating several projects for this City Council.

The programme that he is now premièring in JAZZMADRID presents a number of differences to those works. Basically, a sketch of the future of jazz and ambient music in which the presence of Toño de Miguel on the double bass and Borja Barrueta on the drums adds even greater interest.

Borja Barrueta – Drums
Toño Miguel – Double bass
Suso Saiz – Guitar and electronic
