Balance is only achieved when two forces working from different points do so at one and the same time. There is independence and understanding in balance; that is, identity and respect, concepts that either go hand in hand or do not exist at all. In jazz music, rules are invented for every occasion, but there must always be balance. Led by young Austrian percussionist Alex Cech, on paper it seems that this quartet is an irrefutable demonstration of the creative balance that can be attained by four individuals with a shared artistic passion.
Although their biography may be scant, the group is brimming with artistic enthusiasm and reviews endorsing their qualities say that its composition is the result of a splendid distillation of Europe’s best modern jazz harvests. Saxophonist Andy Middleton, an American based in Vienna, is an essential ingredient in the mix. His career has led him to collaborate with such legends as Dave Holland or Billy Hart, and it’s he who is responsible for maintaining the strength of the narrative. Frank Faktish is a guitarist with clean phrasing and tempered initiatives, who always provides just the right answer to the rhythmic section that is rounded off by Czech double bass player Tomás Baros and drummer Alex Cech, the leader of Inn-finity.
