As in their exciting earlier visits to JAZZMADRID, this ensemble will now return to offer us emotionally fresh and wholesomely intelligent jazz. The Amaniel Big Band was created in 2011, by an initiative of its director, Juan Carlos López Fernández, professor at the Amaniel Professional Conservatory of Music, public music education centre belonging to the Community of Madrid. The idea was to boost the presence of jazz in professional centres, in response to a growing demand for a style of music that is not all that common in the context of official teaching centres.
Little by little, jazz has finally gained a space of its own in the conservatoires of Madrid, and the band puts its skills to the test in regular performances of an academic nature, besides appearing in such venues as Barco, Clamores or Galileo Galilei, and in such conservatoires as the Victoria de los Ángeles. In the last five years, as we have already explained, they have also been invited to play in this festival.
Finally, it is worth mentioning the support given by all the members of the band who all participate altruistically in its organisation and who do so with such enthusiasm that it has managed to consolidate itself even though it has only been in existence for a very few years. If we were to look into the future, I’d say that everyone involved in this big band has reasons to be optimistic.
