As in their previous exciting visits to JAZZMADRID, this ensemble will once again offer us jazz that is both emotionally refreshing and healthily intelligible. Amaniel Big Band was created in 2011. It was an initiative by the group’s bandleader Juan Carlos López Fernández, a teacher at the Amaniel Professional Music Conservatory, a public musical education centre that belongs to the Community of Madrid. The aim was to promote the presence of jazz in professional centres, meeting the demands of a style of music often ignored in official programmes of study.
Jazz has gradually earned a place for itself in Madrid’s conservatories, and the band demonstrates its prowess with regular academic performances. It also performs at clubs including Barco, Clamores and Galileo Galilei, as well as in conservatories like Victoria de los Ángeles. This is the fifth year in a row that it has been invited to take part in this festival.
Finally, due credit must be given to the supporting role played by each of the group’s members, who contribute selflessly towards its dynamic. Their enthusiasm has enabled the band to become firmly established in the few years since its creation. The future looks bright for everybody involved with this big band.
