Avishai Cohen is a man attached to his instrument, the double bass. A restless musician revealing himself to the ears of his fans as an insatiable devourer of music. Once chosen by Chick Corea to train in Origin, now, within the framework of JAZZMADRID, Avishai has been invited to perform with all the sound and power that go hand in hand with his dedication, in a concert in which it will once again become clear that a presentation by Avishai Cohen is not just another performance/a common event.
The musician has recently published an album called “Arvoles” (the “v” is not a typo of “árboles” (trees) in Spanish) and, unlike “Aurora” and “Seven Seas”, from 2009 and 2011 respectively, the track list doesn’t seem to venture into Sephardi music. Packed with rhythm and lyricism, his compositions meander through the territories of advanced jazz, where, some time ago, Avishai made his mark as a master of undeniable virtues, above all, in the recreation of a path of interpretation which, they say, may well lead to Charles Mingus, not to mention Jaco Pastorius, who made him decide to choose the bass guitar after he had originally started out playing the piano.
In this concert, Avishai will demonstrate the superb understanding he has reached with the musicians that accompany him. Exquisite and overwhelming jazz, both in power and precision/tuning, but also an adventurous jazz, full of ideas.
