- This event has passed.
Since she first burst onto the scene in the 1980s, together with Steps Ahead, Eliane Elias has not given up on her determination to remain at the forefront of creative activity. Today, time has rewarded her work, and the verdict is unanimous; she’ll soon have chalked up four decades accumulating uniqueness, and Eliane has a very complex piano technique and her performances as a singer often attain remarkable heights.
Daughter of a classical piano player, back in her native Sao Paulo she was only twelve years of age when she began taking on Art Tatum, Bill Evans and Bud Powell. And it wouldn’t be long before she started playing with Vinicius de Moraes and Toquinho. Eliane became a fully-fledged star in her own right, thanks to her debut album “Eliane Elias plays Jobim”, into which she poured her very heart and soul.
In that register and without any dissimulation, she showed us that wonderful way she has of soothing and softening her voice, as if she was searching for deeper meanings for the words she is singing. A technique that made A.C. Jobim declare that he considered her the ideal interpreter of his music. The structure of the show she is now touring is simple; essentially – although another few musicians may also join in – she will be visiting us with a trio that includes double bassist Marc Johnson. They will be presenting the album “Love Stories”.
