Her origins are in the musical circuits of Macon, USA, and she knows that if you want to find the ideal place for all manner of transgressions, then there’s no frontier like jazz. Daughter of a Baptist minister and a church singer, Lizz Wright started her career by setting up a vocal trio with her two brothers.
She made a name for herself in 2002 during a couple of Billie Holiday tribute concerts, and a year later she signed a deal with the Verve label. Thus, was born, professionally speaking, the exciting vocalist who now visits us.
In her music, Lizz Wright rummages through the spice racks of gospel, folk and blues, and with that peculiar melting pot of handcrafted blends she has been preparing, down through the years, a catalogue of songs which can today be found in half a dozen albums. These contain compositions of their own, of course, but also covers of songs by Patsy Cline, Nick Drake, Ike Turner and Bob Dylan, among others.
Wright, who already visited Madrid in 2003, shortly after she released her first album, “Salt”, is still a successful and best-selling artist. Her visit will also showcase the understanding she has reached with the craft of her musicians.
