A dancer and choreographer from Costa Rica, Lucía Marote has been a guest teacher of contemporary dance in schools and such projects as Carmen Senra, Danza 180º, Bambúdanza, Descalzinha Danza, Belgrade Dance KInstitute and “Una Tarde en Danza”. As a choreographer, her research is rooted in the honesty of her discourse and her trust in her body and dance as a language in itself.
She began her creations in 2012, with the solo piece “El Pie”, with which she won a series of awards in Spain. Since then, her work has been presented in such festivals and circuits as Acieloabierto, Red de Teatros Alternativos, Danza a Escena, Danzamos, Ellas Crean and TheLuckyTrimmer. She is currently working on her project as a performer, creator and teacher in Madrid.
In this show, the artist focuses her attention on Ella Fitzgerald, a singer who when she sang, would take so much care of the touch, the sound signature, the caress of some verses that she ended up presenting them to us all wrapped up in gift paper. Lucía sees her like this:
“When I hear Ella Fitzgerald sing, I want to dance. She moves her voice, and I feel her voice moving my body. When I hear Ella Fitzgerald sing, I feel that she disappears, and everything is song, voice. That’s how I want to dance, to disappear behind the dance, and for Ella to be there with me, for my dance and her voice to travel together through this space. That’s how I celebrate what she inspires in me”.
