Parade to welcome the festival from Plaza de Cibeles to Plaza de Colón.
A journey through the history of an essentially dynamic music, and an invitation to dance in complicit enjoyment without any inhibitions whatsoever. This is, in essence, a street concert by the Madrid Hot Jazz Band, intent as they are on acting as an entertaining marching band during some of the most significant moments of this festival.
Made up of musicians from Italy and Madrid, the group has a very generous ensemble of really glittering soloists: a clarinet, a tenor sax that can also double as a soprano sax, a bass, a double bass and, finally, the drums. They have released two albums and they are constantly performing in Italy and throughout Spain.
Starting from rhythms that have their roots in the Mardi Gras, the Madrid Hot Jazz Band creates music that evolves into the attractive and contagious dance rhythms of lindy hop, balboa and blues. Percussion sounds tangled up in the banjo lines, and the clarinet confronting the jazzy sounds of the saxophones. And, in the set list, a handful of hits that relate back to the tunes that can still be heard in the clubs and bars of the rebuilt Vieux Carré of New Orleans.
