Boogie woogie, Cajun, swamp blues, country, and rock and roll are some of the robust styles that, properly embraced, are distilled by the adventures of Marcia Ball, an artist whose curriculum reveals a childhood spent in Vinton, Louisiana, surrounded by a family in which, curiously enough, all the women played the piano.
Marcia began to play this instrument when she was only five years old, and eight years later, watching singer Irma Thomas perform at a concert, she discovered blues in all its glory. So great was the impact that, after completing her music studies at Louisiana State University, she started a psychedelic rock band called GUM, and decided to include in the repertoire – and not by chance – a handful of songs by Irma Thomas.
Marcia Ball’s career to date has allowed us to enjoy almost twenty albums, as well as countless collaborations with blues artists such as Lonnie Brooks, William Clark or Joe Ely. And as for her facet as a concert performer, the artist travels the world with a band that has, in the incisive style of the best musicians of New Orleans, the lion’s tooth of arrangements. A good time for all is guaranteed.
