A saxophonist and composer, Nubya García lives and works in London, where she has collaborated with many very different artists. Some of those who have benefited from her talent are producer Congo Natty, Melt Yourself Down or Polar Bear. The artist has also just played the clarinet On Moses Boyd’s most recent album.
It is often said that Nubya García is a fundamental asset in the renaissance of jazz in London, and even though that detail is not exact, it is allowing her to become more well-known and to establish herself in the contemporary jazz scene. These strange days of globalisation have brought about a resurgence of the love of jazz in a city that never lost interest in this music.
Of Caribbean descent, Nubya started out in the Camden Music Service, before studying in the Royal Academy’s Junior Jazz course. She is now releasing her solo project, “Nubya Sive”, which is interesting because it brings out the livelier side of hip-hop in a jazz context. And, in case somebody does not know her all that well and wants to listen to Nubya before coming to the show, on one of those places on the Internet you’ll find her performing “Fly Free” and “Lost Kingdoms”, two of her most successful songs.
