A regular visitor to our stages. Cuban pianist Omar Sosa blends ingredients of the African diaspora with notes of western dissonance and jazz as never before. It’s a simple recipe: Sosa has contemporary European composers in one of the hemispheres of his brain, and in the other, Thelonious Monk.
He studied piano at the National School of Music of Havana, and he completed his training at the Higher Art Institute of the Cuban capital. Always open to experimentation, this multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer offers more than a hundred concerts a year on stages all over the world, and he has published more than twenty albums, not to mention his many collaborations as a producer and as a guest musician.
He has also composed music for films and TV, and the concert he will give here is part of a pedagogical project the artist is developing with the Taller de Músics Ensamble of Barcelona. That is why he will be accompanied by a number of musicians from this Taller de Músics’ School of Higher Music Education (ESEM), a detail that makes his appearance even more interesting, because it is an opportunity to discover the project that Omar has been working on for months now with this energetic and talented band from Barcelona.
