Pepe Bao, born in Ferrol and now resident in Seville, is one of the most important names in the history of the modern electric bass in our country. After proving himself as a connoisseur of the languages of flamenco, jazz and rock, this bass player is now busy discovering new musical forms for an art he wants to master in his own way.
More than a hundred recordings; countless performances throughout his musical career and dozens of projects; collaborations with such artists as Raimundo Amador and Remedios Amaya, or sharing the stage with international stars such as Marcus Miller and B.B. King; awards like the “Filón Minero” to the best Flamenco instrumentalist at the 53rd Festival of La Unión, best Spanish bass guitarists in history for Rolling Stone magazine in 2014, bass guitarist of the year for Heavy Rock magazine in 2016 or best alt-rock group in 2006 and best live band in 2010 as part of Medina Azahara make Pepe a veritable institution and a reference for more than a generation of bass players.
What differentiates the Pepe Bao who created O’funkillo from the one who presented his album “Andebass” just a few months ago is not only the years that have passed by, but also his ever growing ability to challenge himself.
